Plans revealed to convert Toxteth's Coleman's building into luxury apartments
The iconic Coleman's Fireproof Depository building in Toxtethis all set to be restored to its original glory; however, in a different form, it will host several luxury apartments. The apartments will include all the modern amenities of modern-day living. In addition, the original industrial style of the building that includes iron pillars will bring together the industrial age and modern luxury living.
The building was originally built in 1900 and was used as a storehouse for rare collectable items such as jewellery, legal documents, and pianos but remained vacant for several years.
Although the establishment date of the building is mentioned on the building as 1875, it is thought the date refers to when Coleman's was first established as a 'furniture mover and depository.' The building Toxteth is famous for its unique red brick and cast-iron structure.
However, now Maddison has developed plans to renovate the building and convert it into high-like apartments. The developers plan as many as 20 apartments.
It plans to build studio apartments, one bedroom and two bedrooms. The oriental high-ceiling and industrial structure will create a classic high-end lifestyle. However, the developers want to retain as many original features as possible.
Ross Spencer of Maddison Develop said: "We're excited to be bringing this much-loved building back into use in the form of apartments - and although the interior will be contemporary and luxury, we're going to retain the building's iconic exterior. In addition, we hope to keep as many original features as possible to bring the contemporary and luxury features without losing the character."
"The plans we've had drawn up have large lounges and kitchens, as well as luxury bathrooms."
The brick and iron building became famous when it was set on fire during the Toxteth riots in 1981.
The originality of the building will be maintained by the developers, and the brick lettering on the outside of the building, a 100-year-old goods lift and iron doors. Sam Tumilty, managing director of Liverpool City Lets, managing the apartments once completed, said: "We are delighted to be involved in such a unique and exciting development.
Liverpool's famous skyline is famous for a reason. So many beautiful buildings have made the city what it is today, and this historic building has stayed empty for too long.
